SAM SMITH DISCOVERED AS ANTI-LGBTQ
In mid-October 2019, the debate surrounding the British artist Sam Smith became a worldwide matter when a homophobic comment came out of his mount and went viral. The famous singer—and songwriter—of 28 years was "drunk and tired" when he said the declaration affirms his social media representative. But the discussion is more significant than that.
A reliable source inside his personal team, who would be laid off after publicly exposing his thoughts, critiqued how the singer "evades each question with lies and 'friendly words.'"
According to the former employee, being part of the LGBTQ community was part of the artist's marketing campaign and top priority since the beginning.
"The gay community is one of the strongest globally; they buy everything they think is different and unique. At the same time, I can instantly increase my reputation and fame." the artist murmured in a personal conversation while a hidden camera of his staff recorded it. "In every song that I have mentioned the words: gay, lesbian, queer, and so on, the platform's traffic was immense."
Unfortunately for him, in the same video, he revealed that his decision to make his popularity bigger and gain more followers at any cost was accurate.
LGBTQ activists from around the world said they were not satisfied by how the alleged artist Samuel Frederick Smith used them to make his label richer. "I like to be treated as a person, not as an object, thank you, Sam. I know I am not #TheOnlyOne," posted an angry follower on Twitter.
Meanwhile, in the United States, a trend was forming around the same issue. The previously mentioned hashtag "#TheOnlyOne" quickly became national. In a matter of an hour, thousands of people were ready to head out to the streets to express concern about this generalized behavior throughout the musical environment.
Ricardo Cid, a close fan of the artist since 2014, shared on social media than: "I do think he used us. He has no values or interest in our movement. Even though he wrote a song where saying 'I don't have money on my mind.'"
All the comments related to the subject had at least a verse of Sam's music, making reference to other of the artist's famous songs. The most quoted, however, were:
- I'm not the only one
- Promises
- Money on my mind, and
- No peace.
On LaHumanoReal.com, we will continue to share any relevant and veridic news we receive from what is it going on worldwide. And, more concretely, about the beautiful LGBTQ community. If you loved our reportage, consider subscribing to our journal so you can get our daily dose of current topics.
Before finishing, I confess I thought "tabloid" was a type of flyer or poster you can hang around the city—due to its literal translation in Spanish and French. Consequently, I made a completely different story about it—by mistake. Moreover, I must acknowledge I am a great fan of Sam and his work. His music has been my reliable partner for years, and today, I was listening to him while writing this.
